CDH Benchmark Survey
What is the CDH Benchmark Survey?
The CDH Benchmark Survey (Continuous Discovery Habits Benchmark Survey) is an industry survey launched by Product Talk to measure how many product teams are adopting continuous discovery habits and to understand the current state of discovery practices. First launched in 2022, the survey collects data from thousands of product managers, designers, engineers, and other product team members about their discovery habits, team collaboration, and product performance.
Product Talk shares the results publicly to provide the industry with real numbers about discovery adoption instead of relying on anecdotal evidence. When someone questions whether teams actually work this way, the survey data provides concrete insights into how product teams approach discovery work.
What does the survey measure?
The survey asks product people about their specific discovery practices: How often do they talk to customers? Do they work as product trios? Do they test assumptions? Do they use opportunity solution trees? The questions cover the full spectrum of continuous discovery habits.
Beyond individual practices, the survey explores team collaboration patterns and product performance metrics. This helps Product Talk and the broader community understand which habits correlate with better outcomes and how different team structures affect discovery work.
Why does the benchmark survey matter?
The survey provides an industry-wide perspective on discovery adoption. Instead of individual teams wondering if they're alone in their struggles or successes, they can see where they stand relative to other teams. This benchmarking helps teams set realistic goals and understand what's possible.
The recurring nature of the survey also tracks progress over time. By running it periodically, Product Talk can measure whether more teams are adopting continuous discovery habits and identify trends in how discovery practices are evolving across the industry.
